Manufacturer: The drug has been developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a laboratory of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories has been a partner and is manufacturing the drug for public use.

How does medicine 2-DG works?

DRDO Chief G. Satish Reddy said that this drug will work directly on the shells infected with coronavirus. The body’s immune system will work and the patient will recover quickly. It is a glucose analog, which resembles glucose, but is not. A virus growing rapidly in the body needs glucose for energy. Thus, the virus will take this glucose analog and neutralize. The drug will then stop the virus from growing.

Sudhir Chandna has said that like glucose powder, this medicine can be taken twice a day with water. A Covid-19 patient may need to take this medicine for five to seven days to recover fully.
