Big relief: Govt waives import duty of Remdesivir API, injection, and specific inputs

Import duty of Remdesivir API: Amidst the havoc of the Coronavirus, there has been an uproar in the whole country regarding Remadecivir. Due to the increase in the Corona case, its demand has increased so much that it is beginning to suffer everywhere. Meanwhile, the central government has taken a relief decision. The country has removed import duty on the anti-viral drug Remedicivir. Which is currently used to treat Kovid-19 patients. In a notification issued late on Tuesday, the duty on the import of drug paraphernalia used for the manufacture of the drug was removed. This step will help increase domestic availability and reduce injection costs. Also, this step of the government will not only remove its shortage but will also reduce the price.

The government on Tuesday waived customs duties on Remadecivir, its raw materials, and other components used to make antiviral drugs. The statement issued by the Department of Revenue said that the items on which the Central Government has waived the duty include the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used in the manufacture of Remedisvir, Remedisvir injections, and beta cyclododextrin. This exemption in import duty will remain in force till 31 October.

At the same time, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has tweeted that no fee will be charged on the import of Remdesivir API, which is used to make Remedesivir injection, which is considered effective in the treatment of Corona. Apart from this, import of Remedisivir injection has also been made duty free. With the announcement of the Central Government, this medicine can be expected to be available in sufficient quantity in the country in the coming days. 

Meanwhile, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the production of anti-viral drug Remdesiver will be doubled in the next 15 days. Let me tell you that there is news of deficiency from many states regarding the anti-viral drug Remedesiver. Union Minister Mandavia had said in a video message on his Twitter handle that the Indian government is making all efforts to increase the production of Remedisvir injection in the country and make it available at a lower cost. Currently, 150,000 vials of Remedisvir are being produced per day and, over the next 15 days, production will be doubled to 300,000 vials each day.
