With the beginning of the new financial year 2022-23, the common people have started getting a booster dose of inflation. With the increase in the prices of food items, CNG, and many other items from April 1, the prices of 800 essential medicines have also increased. These medicines also include pain relievers including medicines used in the treatment of cough, fever, blood pressure, and diabetes. That is, now patients will have to lose more pockets even for the treatment of minor diseases.

The National Pharma Pricing Authority (NPPA) had on Monday announced a massive 11 percent increase in the prices of over 800 essential medicines from April 1. The revised policy of the National Essential List of Medicine came into force in the year 2013. Since then, this is the biggest ever increase (of 10.76 percent) in the prices of essential medicines. Wholesale prices of essential medicines have increased today. Soon the retail price of these medicines will also increase.

Painkillers and gas medicines also include

medicines for fever, skin infections, blood pressure, heart diseases, cold and cough, ear, nose, and throat medicines, antiseptics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, pain, and gas medicines. Including more than 800 medicines. These include drugs containing important salts like Paracetamol, Azithromycin, Ciprofloxin, Hydrochloride, Metronidazole, Phenobarbitone, Phenytoin Sodium. Medicines that overcome the deficiency of folic acid, vitamins, and minerals also fall in this category.

The reason behind the increase in medicine prices is attributed to increasing in wholesale inflation. NPPA hikes the prices of essential categories of medicines on the basis of the Wholesale Price Index.
