The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR Last Date) for the assessment year 2023-24 is 31 July. This time the work of filing returns is going on in full swing. So far, about 2.50 crore ITRs (ITR) have been filed. Even now a large number of income taxpayers have not filed returns. Many people feel that the government will extend the last date for filing ITR. But, the government has no intention of extending the deadline at present. The government did not extend the deadline for filing returns last time as well.
Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra said in an interview to PTI-language that the Finance Ministry is not considering extending the July 31 deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR). He also asked the income tax payers to file their returns as soon as possible. Malhotra said that we expect more returns to be filed this year than last year. About 5.83 crore income tax returns were filed till July 31 last year.
More than 2.5 crore ITR files
According to the dashboard available on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department, so far 11,30,85,146 individual users have registered themselves on the portal. At the same time, 2,61,07,869 income tax returns have been filed so far. Out of these, about 2,40,69,116 returns have been verified. The Income Tax Department has processed 1,12,91,905 returns out of the total returns filed so far.
This time returns are being filled fast
This time there is a lot of enthusiasm among taxpayers about filing returns. This time one crore and two crore returns were filed in less time than last year. This time, till July 11, 2 crore people had filed their ITR in the country. Last year till July 20, 2 crore returns were filed. In this way, this time this achievement was achieved 9 days in advance. According to the Income Tax Department, till June 26, one crore ITRs were filed. Whereas last time on July 8, the number of ITR filers had reached one crore.
