Gram Ujala Program: Under the Gram Ujala Program, 7 watts and 12 watts LED bulbs will be given to rural families with a three-year warranty.
The Union Energy Minister, RK Singh, started the Gram Ujala Program on Friday, a plan to make available high quality LED bulbs at affordable rates in the villages. Under the program, the government company Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) subsidiary unit Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL) will provide LED bulbs to rural families at the rate of Rs 10 per bulb in the villages.
In the first phase, LED bulbs will be given in villages of five states at a cheaper rate
CESL said in a statement that under the program, in the first phase, LED bulbs will be made available in the villages of five states at a cheaper rate. In this phase 1.5 crore LED bulbs will be given to rural families in villages of Ara (Bihar), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Western Gujarat. The program will be financed entirely through Carbon Credits and as such it is the first program in India.

Singh started this scheme digitally from Ara district of Bihar. On this occasion, the minister said, “It is a very happy moment for us that we have been able to find a solution to provide affordable rates and high quality LED bulbs to our people living in villages.” I commend him for the tireless work done by CESL in advancing the vision of the country. I am confident that this commitment and effort will be seen in all the villages of the country. “
Customers can take a maximum of 5 LED bulbs.
Under the Village Ujala program, 7-watt and 12-watt LED bulbs will be given to rural families with a three-year warranty. These bulbs will be given on depositing old traditional bulbs (incandescent bulbs). Under the Village Ujala scheme, customers can take a maximum of 5 LED bulbs by giving them regular bulbs. These rural families will also have meters installed here.
According to the statement, this program will have a significant impact on India’s ongoing action on climate change. This will save 202.5 million units (kWh) of electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by 165 million tonnes per annum. This will provide better light at affordable rates in homes.
