For such passengers, the Railways gives such an option, which increases the chances of getting their seat confirmed in the train. This option is none other than Vikalp Scheme. Railways have been running the Vikalp scheme for a long time and a large number of passengers also get the benefit of this scheme.
What is Vikalp Scheme and how does it increase the chances of getting the ticket confirmed?

According to IRCTC, you will be transferred to the alternate train within 72 hours from the time of departure of the train in which you have booked. This scheme has been implemented on the same class of Mail/Express trains. Northern Railway has made some tweets giving information about the option scheme.

This scheme helps the waiting railway passengers to get vacant berths of other trains running between the same route and place. Under the Vikalp scheme, rail travelers can select the scheme and choose 7 alternate trains while booking tickets online. If any seat or berth is available in an alternate train, the seat/berth will automatically be allotted to them in any train opted by them.

Railway has given information by tweeting, “Keeping in view the festivals, many special trains are being run by Northern Railway for the convenience of railway passengers, in addition to regular trains, which are operated by New Delhi, Delhi J. Passengers can take advantage of these being done from Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar, and other stations.
