The Modi government has taken another major decision regarding Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Union Home Ministry has issued a notification of new laws regarding these union territories on Tuesday. According to the new rule, any Indian citizen can now buy land in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Center has repealed or changed 26 laws.
The central government has removed the condition of ‘being a permanent resident of the state’ to buy land in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs has come into force with immediate effect.
The Central Government has said that this order will be called the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Adoption of Central Laws) Third Order, 2020. The order states that the General Orders Act, 1897 applies to the interpretation of this order as it interprets the laws applicable in the Indian Territory.

Reacting sharply to the Home Ministry notifications, the leader of the National Conference and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said that Jammu and Kashmir are now available for sale.
Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Jammu and Kashmir land ownership law has been unacceptably amended. Domicile’s symbolism has also been removed and the purchase of non-arable land and the transfer of agricultural land have been eased. Jammu and Kashmir are now ready for sale and poor, low landowners will suffer.
Last year, the central government restructured the state, disregarding most of the provisions of Article 370 granting special state status to Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Earlier in September 2020, the Jammu and Kashmir administration amended the Domicile Certificate (Procedure) Rule.
